Ephesians 4: How are we to mature as Christians?

Core Singles FellowshipHow are we to mature as Christians and get rid of bitterness and unforgiveness towards someone? The aim of the Ephesians letter is to confirm and equip a maturing church.  As Christians, we must understand who God is and become grounded in the knowledge of God’s redemption for our sin. Ephesians 4 teaches us how to exercise and strengthen our faith, until we are no longer influenced by every new trend or undulating breeze that blows across the evangelical landscape. Do you struggle with bitterness, slander or unforgiveness? Ephesians 4 tells us how to get rid of these bitter roots.

Acceptance & Service (Chapter 12, BWGI Workbook).

Core Singles FellowshipGod the Father could not think of a greater or nobler role for His Son than to send Him on a mission of rescue. The Son was sent to serve, to suffer, to ascend to Heaven, and to be rewarded with His reign over the universe and the church. We too are called to participate in the family business of rescue, and to consciously choose to replicate Christ’s ministry in our lives. As daughters and sons of God, we have been sent. We are to choose to serve and to suffer. We will ascend in the rapture, and be rewarded by participating in Christ’s reign. God could not think of a greater or nobler role for us than to participate in Christ’s life pattern. This life pattern gives overall meaning to our lives.

Acceptance & Sin (Chapter 11, BWGI Workbook)

Core Singles FellowshipWe will explore how we are to deal with the effects of sin, and the acts of sin in our lives. Sin affects us internally and it affects the Trinity. When we sin, the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit each respond differently to us. This makes confession of wrongdoing critically important in our lives. When we confess our wrongdoing, God the Father restores His hand of blessing, the Son ceases the judgment of child training or discipline, and the Spirit begins anew the process of character formation.

Core Singles FellowshipWe will explore the different ways in which the Spirit of God ministers to us. At the same time, we must recognize how radically different His ministry is versus that of the flesh. We are commanded to walk by the Spirit, to be led by the Spirit, to have the fruit of the Spirit in our lives, and to take individual steps into life by the Spirit.

Acceptance & Prayer (Chapter 10, BWGI Workbook)

Core Singles FellowshipWe will discover how our relationship with God the Father is expanded through prayer. Prayer is based neither on the investment of time nor the multiplication of words. Instead our prayer life is based on a set of issues we must face daily. These issues determine how we relate to God as a Father and the world about us.

Core Singles FellowshipWe will explore how walking by means of the Spirit addresses the moods and appetites of the flesh. We will note the negative power of this twin threat. We will find how having a healthy relationship with the Trinity delivers us from the power of lusts and moods and provides us with the spiritual resources to manage our moods and appetites.

An Antidote for Fear in the Face of Global Terrorism

Core Singles FellowshipThe news today talks extensively about the spread of global terrorism and it seems to be in our face no matter where we turn. Our current crop of presidential candidates repeatedly rehearse this topic as well. Certainly, there is much to be frightened about, and legitimately so. What to do about it (our fear) is the focus for this presentation. To answer that we will go to one of the earliest letters in the New Testament and see how Paul in A. D. 51-52 addressed the fears of the new believers in Thessalonica with a prophetic word about how God would sovereignly bring history to a conclusion, while protecting the church. Although Paul’s solution to their fear goes mostly to their persecution, his antidote really applies no matter the fear – economic collapse, loss of a job, a broken relationship, because God has promised to be with us regardless of circumstance.

Isaiah’s Greatest Hits: Validation (Part Three)

Core Singles FellowshipGod validates single adults in Isaiah 56. This talk will focus on the special place God has in his heart for single adults, and how single adults are in a unique place to serve God.

“This is what the Lord says: ‘Maintain justice and do what is right, for my salvation is close at hand and my righteousness will soon be revealed. Blessed is the one who does this— the person who holds it fast, who keeps the Sabbath without desecrating it, and keeps their hands from doing any evil.’ Let no foreigner who is bound to the Lord say, ‘The Lord will surely exclude me from his people.’ And let no eunuch complain, ‘I am only a dry tree.’

For this is what the Lord says: ‘To the eunuchs who keep my Sabbaths, who choose what pleases me and hold fast to my covenant— to them I will give within my temple and its walls a memorial and a name better than sons and daughters; I will give them an everlasting name that will endure forever. And foreigners who bind themselves to the Lord to minister to him, to love the name of the Lord, and to be his servants, all who keep the Sabbath without desecrating it and who hold fast to my covenant— these I will bring to my holy mountain and give them joy in my house of prayer. Their burnt offerings and sacrifices will be accepted on my altar; for my house will be called a house of prayer for all nations.’ The Sovereign Lord declares— he who gathers the exiles of Israel: ‘I will gather still others to them besides those already gathered.'” – Isaiah 56: 1-8
