About the speaker…

Dr. David Eckman

Dr. David Eckman has been a pastor for 16 years followed by seven years as a Dean and Vice-President for Western Seminary in San Jose, CA. and Portland, OR. He studied at Oxford University while working on his doctorate, and received his Ph.D. in Old Testament and Hebrew from Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary. He holds an M.Div., M.Th., and Ph.D.

Dr. Eckman is currently retired from Western Seminary, and is now full-time with BWGI Ministries. He is an international speaker and educator, and has authored several books including: Becoming Who God Intended, Knowing the Heart of the Father and Sex, Food & God.

Devin KlefferDevin Kleffer has been involved in education for more than ten years, with experience in both private and public institutions, including special education. He earned his Master’s Degree from Western Theological Seminary, and his California Teaching Credential from San Jose State University.

Devin currently serves the Monte Vista Christian School community both as a member of the school’s faculty and its coaching staff. He teaches U.S. History and Men’s Moral Development, where he has ditched the humdrum of essays, and a dependence on traditional assessment methods, for a variety of technology-based projects. The result has been engaged students involved in critical and creative thinking.

KevinHomAs the Executive Director of Rejoice Ministries, Inc., Kevin Hom provides career and life coaching for professionals and people in transition. In addition to his work with Rejoice, he is the Lead Pastor of Free Church Network, a new church in the Fremont Tri-Cities area. Kevin has held various roles in business and technology in the area of Financial Planning & Analysis and IT and was the CFO of an Internet startup. After working in industry, Kevin moved to full-time Christian ministry which included the positions of President of Kimber Hills Academy and the Lead Pastor of Fremont Community Church. Kevin holds both an MBA and an MDiv, and is a Gallup-Certified Strengths Coach. Kevin and his wife, Pauline, have two children in college.

About the speaker…

Dr. Merilyn CoplandBefore completing her Ph.D. in Ancient History and Mediterranean Archaeology at UC Berkeley, Dr. Merilyn Copland had already completed Masters Degrees from San Francisco State University in History, and Jerusalem University College in Hebrew Language and Literature; and she had excavated at three biblical sites in Israel: Timnah, Dor Chorazim, and Magdala.

She has taught at public, private, and Christian universities and seminaries in the United States and abroad. Her writings on ancient Israel and on travel in Israel today have appeared in such journals as the Israel Exploration Journal, Bulletin of the American Schools of Oriental Research, and Christian History.

Dr. Copland has co-authored a book for Christians touring Israel and Greece, and has appeared in a T.V. series on the book of Revelation. She is currently involved in research on women in early Christianity, and e-books on archaeological sites in the Mediterranean.

Tom McEnroeRev. Tom McEnroe has served as a pastor in various capacities for 25 years, with many of those years devoted to serving single adults. He is also an adjunct professor of Greek at Western Seminary, a licensed general contractor, avid outdoors person and speaker.

Tom has been married to Kathrine for 33 years, and has two children: Tom V, who lives in Southern California; and Alexandria, who received her master’s degree in France.

Gary Hess is a retired pastor and business executive. He has been partnering with BWGI Ministries since 2012 as Administrator and Ministry Coach. Prior to BWGI, he spent 18 years on staff at Los Gatos Venture Christian Church, ten years as the Administrator and eight years as Discipleship Pastor. Additionally, he has 29 years of experience in the Electronics Industry, including ten years as the U. S. Director of Marketing for Custom Chips for use in communication and computer equipment. Gary has a BSEE, MBA and graduate work in Theology.

Rev. Cathy Stambaugh

Rev. Cathy Stambaugh was ordained to the office of Minister of Word and Sacrament in the Reformed Church in America in November 2012. She is a graduate of Western Seminary, earning her Master of Arts in Ministry and Leadership. Cathy has been leading Bible studies and speaking to groups at workshops, conferences, and special events for over 15 years. She is currently the Pastor of Discipleship and a Lecturer for BWGI Ministries.

Cathy and her husband, Chris, have been married since 1986, and are both active in teaching small groups and serving in leadership at Church of the Chimes. Chris, Cathy, and their two children, Joshua and Megan, live in San Jose, California.

Pastor Peter WangRev. Dr. Peter Wang has been working with young adults for the last 20 years in the Silicon Valley. He received his Doctorate of Ministry from Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary, a master’s degree fromWestern Seminary, and a sociology degree from UC Berkeley. Peter has a keen interest in the area of young adult spiritual life in North America from a post-modern, post Christian context.

He is presently a pastor at Southbay Community Baptist Church and serves as a board member in various non-profit organizations. He has co-authored: Asian American Youth Ministry and is a consultant and speaker to those ministries working with young adults.

Peter and his wife Ann, who is a Licensed Marriage Family Therapist, have been married since 1998 and enjoy spending time with their active daughter Ava. An avid skier and ultimate Frisbee player, Peter also likes to play strategy games on the computer during his free time.

San Francisco Hike from Powell street to Sausalito, July 4th

You and your friends are invited to join us for a difficult but fantastic hike from Powell street to Sausalito on Friday, July 4th! We will have dinner and watch the fireworks near Pier 39/Ghirardelli Square!

This 10 mile hike has steep hills, winding stairs and a good five to six hours of walking. We will go into stores, see the Emporium dome, peak into the cable-car house, get our free sample of Ghirardelli chocolate and watch cruise ships pass under our feet as we walk across the Golden Gate. Then we’ll ride a boat back while the sun sets and watch fireworks near the water in front of Ghirardelli Square.

Do not try to meet us after the hike for dinner and fireworks, the city will be absolute chaos for driving to Ghirardelli Square.

When? July 4th, 2014
Where? Meeting Places and Times:
  1. Kohl’s Parking Lot, 525 E. Hamilton Ave., Campbell CA. Pulling out of the lot at 9:00 AM.
  2. Driving into and out of the Edgewood Park and Ride on 280 at 9:30 AM.
  3. We will drive to the Daly City Bart station and take Bart to Powell street.
  4. Meet outside of Bristol Farms at 10:30 AM. We’ll be getting lunch in the Wesfield Shopping Center’s food court. You can bring your own lunch or buy one at the food court. We will go to a nearby park and have lunch.
What to bring:
Backpack, good walking shoes, light jacket or sweatshirt, sunscreen, water and $$ for Bart, lunch, bus, dinner and boat.
